Los Santos — A routine traffic stop escalated into chaos last night, resulting in a high-speed pursuit through the city of Los Santos and a violent altercation that left both a sheriff’s deputy and the suspect injured.
The incident began when Blaine County Sheriff’s Deputy Adam Thornhill attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle parked on the wrong side of the street in Los Santos. The driver, later identified as Marcell Hendricks, 24, who was wearing a very worn and dirty Santa suit, fled the scene, prompting a pursuit that ended in a dramatic crash near the I-5 Del Perro Freeway Exit and Elgin Avenue. Hendricks initially wrecked his white Dodge Charger during the pursuit and was then picked up by an accomplice in a grey Charger Hellcat Widebody, who remains at large.
According to the Los Santos Police Department, Hendricks exited the vehicle and confronted Deputy Thornhill, stabbing him with a knife in an apparent attempt to resist arrest. Deputy Thornhill discharged his firearm, striking Hendricks. Both men were transported to Pillbox Hill Medical Center for treatment. Hendricks made a full recovery, while Deputy Thornhill was treated for his injuries and released shortly after.
Further investigation revealed that Hendricks was in possession of two baggies containing crack cocaine. Following his recovery, he was arrested and charged with Aggravated Battery against a Law Enforcement Officer, Evading Arrest, and Possession of a Controlled Substance.
Hendricks pled guilty to all charges. He is now serving his sentence at Bolingbroke Penitentiary in Blaine County.
